Micronesia, one of the three major
divisions (with Melanesia and Polynesia) of Oceania, encompassing the islands of the Pacific Ocean east of the Philippines, and for the most part north of the equator. The more than 2000 islands include the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, Guam, the Republic of Palau, the Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, and the Federated States of Micronesia.
